My dad worked with his brother in Kalamazoo, MI. (They both played hockey for and graduated from Western Michigan University in Kzoo)
Funny story, when ESPN covered the Stanley Cup Finals, John got to be an onsite guy for them. So he calls his brother after game 6 in 1994 and tells him he has a ticket for him for game 7 in MSG. His brother declines, saying he has work and life and can’t make it in time.
So the game happens, Rangers win and John calls his brother at 3 AM to let him know they’re out partying with the Rangers and puts Messier on the line.
I knew John’s nephew well enough, they were a great family, really great brothers. I feel for them today with this news.
